COURSE INFORMATION:

NOTE: You must wear your race number and chip on your shoe during the entire run. We strongly recommend using a race belt. Your number must be in the front when you finish.

The proposed Half Marathon course is two 6.5 mile laps of the same loop. The course travels on the paved roads in the surrounding areas and neighborhoods of Westport Plaza & Maryland Heights. The 5K Run Course will be a loop course using part of the Half Marathon Course. All events will start and end at the Westport Complex. NOTE: The 5K Run will start 15 minutes after the Half Marathon folks. Westport Logo

Key Features of the Course:

  • The 13.1 and 3.1 mile courses all start and finish at the Westport Plaza.
  • There are a few significant hills and climbs on the course.
  • The course closes 3 hours and 30 minutes after the official start.
  • The finish area officially closes at 1:00 pm.
  • Pets, in-line skates, bikes and other non-official wheeled vehicles are prohibited on the course.
  • Water and HEED will be available along the course.
  • Hammer Gel and fruit will be available at all aid stations.
  • Mile markers will be posted at each mile.
  • Volunteers will be stationed along the route, to support you and help keep you on the course.
  • Pacers are available for many goal times (1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30 and 3:00 - they will be holding easily identifiable signage with goal times stated on them).

PLEASE - Know the Course! This is an open course (no roads are closed completely). It will be manned by volunteers and law enforcement, but is still your responsibility to know where you are going and to keep yourself safe. Please stay aware of traffic and obey traffic laws – you will be able to roll through intersections that are controlled by volunteers and police, but please still pay attention as we do not have control over motorists that do not listen to our directions. Do not pass the centerline of the road any time or for any reason! If you have time to drive the course before Sunday morning, it would be very wise to do so!

TIMING CHIP NOTICE:
The Joker's Wild Run will be timed using the IPICO sport timing system. The timing systems and tags are very accurate and very easy to use. At packet pickup each participant will be given an envelope. The envelope will contain instructions, your specifically assigned timing tag and two small ties to secure to the top of your shoe laces. It is that simple! This also make for easy removal at the finish line. More about the IPICO timing system and Ultramax Events can be found at www.ultramaxtri.com. Not wearing the transponder properly may prevent you from being timed. Transponders are non-transferable! Be careful not to switch with other participants. The chip must be on your shoe at all times or you will not be scored in the event. Your timing chip will be removed by volunteers once you reach the finish line.

IMPORTANT: If you find you still have your timing chip after the race, please put it in a padded envelope and mail to: Ultramax Events 2902 Forum Blvd Suite 101 Columbia, MO 65203. YOU WILL BE CHARGED A $20 REPLACEMENT FEE IF YOU DO NOT RETURN YOUR TIMING TRANSPONDER Failure to return a chip will result in disqualification from all future events owned or timed by Ultramax Events!

VOLUNTEERS:
Are your friends and/or family are coming to the event? Are they interested in volunteering while you race? We have positions where they can see you start, race and then be there at the finish line to greet you. Nearly 100% of all unsolicited racer comments include praise for our volunteers; this is truly what makes these events possible. The racers really appreciate your time because they know and realize they could not pursue this sport without volunteers. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at info@ultramaxtri.com.

TEAMS:
Teams will transfer their timing chip at the designated locations. The last member of the team should wear the race number on the final run leg. We recommend using a race belt for easy transfer. VERY IMPORTANT: The last runner will need to be wearing the timing chip when he/she crosses the finish line.

Teams can be 2 or 4 people. Teams of 2 people will each run one lap of the course. Teams of 4 will split the course as outlined below:

Team Member Handoff's will be at Aid Station #3 (Shaefer Dr and Dorsett RD Aid Station) and #6 (Progress Pkwy near start line)

Runner 1 = Approximately 3.5 miles - Begins leg at the Starting Line
Runner 2 = Approximately 3.0 miles - Begins leg at Aid Station #3
Runner 3 = Approximately 3.5 miles - Begins leg at Aid Station #6
Runner 4 = Approximately 3.0 miles - Begins leg at Aid Station #3

IMPORTANT: Your team is responsible for transporting team members to and from the handoff points (the end of the 1st lap/aid station #6 is very close to the start line). All parts of the course are accessible by road. Your team will have only one time chip, and it MUST cross the finish line in order to get a time. The chip must be worn on the shoe of your last runner!

Spectators:

If your family and friends are coming to cheer for you (and we hope they are!) we encourage them to stay at the race site for the duration of the event. We understand that it’s pretty sweet to have them out on the course to cheer as you go by, but every additional vehicle that is on the course while racers are on the course just adds to any risk of injury.

The Starting Block:
Fit Perfect Video Gait Analysis Reviewed

Why should you be professionally fit for running shoes?
The technology that has gone into running shoes over the past decade has made it possible to fit nearly every foot type. Shoes are specifically designed to address a vast variety of foot shapes, weight differences, and biomechanical anomalies. There is simply no way most people can buy shoes off the internet or box stores and know they will both fit your feet and be the correct shoes for you in terms of your foot function.

At The Starting Block our team will actually prescribe the correct shoes for you - taking into account running style, running goals, body type and build, foot and body biomechanics, foot shape and profile, and injury status. We accomplish this with our exclusive Fit Perfect Analysis system. We have studied and researched how shoe fitting and gait analysis techniques are being done around the world. We merged the very best concepts into our system. Ultimately this lead to the development of our unique “FIT PERFECT" system.

The total “FREE” Fit Perfect process takes about 20-25 minutes to complete. Using our Fit Perfect system our staff has professional fit over 4,000 individuals. Only found at The Starting Block.

The Starting Block has two locations in Columbia, MO & Springfield, MO. Our fitting process with be worth the trip!
