Questions!
If you have friends/family members that have not yet signed up for the race, they need to so online TODAY. We will be closing registration on Thursday, August 6th.

If you have a problem, don't see yourself on the live entry list, or have any other general questions, please do not worry if you are unable to contact us before Friday! We can make changes, answer questions, and even add you to the entry list at packet pickup. Just be there with your bike and running shoes!

Most race information you will need has been updated on our website! http://www.ultramaxtri.com/races/umaxkansas/race_info.php

IMPORTANT PACKET PICKUP UP INFORMATION - PACKET PICKUP WILL BE DONE ON RACE MORNING - THERE WILL BE NO PACKET PICKUP ON SATURDAY

VERY IMPORTANT - Don’t Forget Your ID! You MUST pick up your OWN packet, and you must have a picture ID to pick up your packet. USA Triathlon allows NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. If you do not have a picture ID, we cannot let you participate in the event.

halfmaxDon’t Forget Your ID!
You MUST pick up your own packet, and you must have a picture ID to pick up your packet. If you do not have a picture ID, we cannot let you race. There are no exceptions to this rule… please don’t drive all the way without a picture ID. Your sister, friend, coach, etc vouching for you does not equal a picture ID.

What to do with your race packet numbers:
Your Run number has holes in the corners (the holes are for safety pins) – this must be worn during the entire run. You do not have to wear it during the bike portion, but you can. We recommend that you buy a race belt that you can attach your number to before the race, then slip on in the Transition Area.
Your Bike number has two adhesive strips on the back. You will fold it over your top tube (in the front, toward your stem) so that a number is visible from both sides.
You will be given a specifically colored swim cap, you must wear the swim cap that is assigned to you.

Best of The USRace Day Process
ARRIVE EARLY! If you are not in line for your packet by 7:30a, you may not get a timing chip (which means you may not be counted for awards). It is better to get up a little early and arrive with too much time, than to arrive with not enough time.

First, you must have your racer number before you body marking
Second, you will get in line for Body Marking (outside the door to the Transition Area) Third, you will arrange your bike and gear in the Transition Area Fourth, you will go to chip assignment and get your chip Finally, RELAX until the race starts

8:00a - SHARP Race Start - We are starting the Octomax Course first, because of the necessity to have a turn around point on the bike course. We are allowing the time gap between the Octomax and Kansas 50 participants to assure that the last few bikers on the Octomax course are close to or past the turn around point on the bike course. This is done to make sure the Kansas 50 athletes are able to roll past that point without the congestion of racers turning around at that point.

Both swim courses will will be a rectangular format. The Kansas 50 Long Course will be the biggest outside rectangle and will be 1 mile in length. The tentative wave start format will be as follows:

Wave 2 - All Kansas Octomax Women
Wave 3 - Octomax Last Swim Wave Option - Open to anyone that does not want to start with the larger two waves.

URunLast Swim Wave - Last Wave Option - Regardless of your age group or race distance, you can choose to swim in a special last wave (reserved for first-time lake swimmers, or athletes who are not yet comfortable with the swim). No need to decide early, you can decide on race day at the beach. Anyone wanting to go in the last wave simply waits until it is announced, we will record your racer number and make the appropriate timing adjustments. It is that simple! We will have a Last Swim Wave option as the last wave of each event. (Kansas 50 and Octomax)

Bike Course - The Kansas 50 long course will be a two-loop format. The course design is a loop that begins at the Lake, then heads out onto primarily rolling open roads. The bike course is open to traffic. Having said that, the course runs through a a very rural part of the area, so vehicular traffic on race day will be minimal. Road surfaces are very good. Arrows, signs and volunteers will help guide you. Note: The Octomax short course will now be an out and back format. The Octomax course will be the first nine miles of the long course loop. There will be a bike aid stations on each lap of the Kansas 50 long course. Be prepared to carry fluid and food requirements, it could be a bit warm in August. Please remember it is your responsibility to know the bike course.

Run Course - Run Course - The run course takes place on the paved roads and gravel packed trail system that intertwines the Hillsdale Lake area. The run is staged on both packed gravel trails and paved roads and is entirely within the Lake area property. Very minimal traffic on the run course! Arrows, signs and volunteers will help you. This is a fairly flat and fast run course, only very small inclines. Approximately 50% of the course will be on packed gravel trails. Plan accordingly if you plan to wear racing flats. You should bring both pairs and judge for yourself once you arrive. Aid stations will be located every mile. Aid Station Supplies: * Heed * Water * Ice * HammerGel * Endurolytes * Oranges and Sponges.

Transition Area (TA) - The entire transition area will be located up top by the Finish Line complex. You will exit, on your bike, through the BIKE OUT DOOR. When exiting for the run, you will run for a short period on grass, then onto the road. Arrows, signs and volunteers will help you.

Please remember it is your responsibility to know the course.

Get full course maps and directions in the "Course Maps" section on the site. at left.

Spectators

If your family and friends are coming to cheer for you (and we hope they are!) we encourage them to stay at the race site for the duration of the event. We understand that it’s pretty sweet to have them out on the course to cheer as you go by, but every additional vehicle that is on the course while racers are on the course just adds to any risk of injury.

Photogliff is the official photography service of Ultramax Events. Photogliff will be providing custom finish photos and staged green screenphotos at our events all season long.

SPECIAL ATTRACTION: Photogliff will setup a green background screen at each event. They can take your picture(s) at the finisPhotoGliffh or with friends, family whatever you like. VOLUNTEERS
OF WE COULD USE A FEW MORE VOLUNTEERS
Are your friends and/or family are coming to the event? Are they interested in volunteering while you race? We have positions where they can see you start, race and then be there at the finish line to greet you. Nearly 100% of all unsolicited racer comments include praise for our volunteers; this is truly what makes these events possible. The racers really appreciate your time because they know and realize they could not pursue this sport without volunteers. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at info@ultramaxtri.com.

Ultramax ServicesUSA Triathlon Rules
All USAT rules apply (and can be found at usatriathlon.org), but a couple of major ones to keep in mind… Helmets must be on and strapped at all times that you are on your bike at the race site. This includes warm up, riding your bike from parking to race site, etc. You can be disqualified if your helmet is not on and strapped.

  • There is no drafting allowed (this means you must ride at least three bike lengths behind the person in front of you, unless actively passing).
  • Always ride to the right, unless actively passing (and pass only on the left). Move back to the right as soon as you have safely passed the other biker.
  • When passing, yell to the biker in front of you “on your left”.
  • If you must get off of your bike while on the course, pull as far right as possible, and make sure to check for other bikers before merging back onto the bike course.
  • Be polite to ALL volunteers and staff. Most of the volunteers will be at the race for about 8 hour this is three-four times longer than it will take most long-course racers to complete the event. They are only out there for one reason – to make it possible for you to race. If you have a problem with a volunteer or staff member or feel their actions have harmed your race, please simply tell the Race Director or Assistant Race Director. Any mistreatment of volunteers can result in disqualification.
  • Clean up your trash when you’re done racing. It will take you about 45 seconds to pick up and throw away your trash… it will take a volunteer an hour or two to clean up if everyone leaves their trash.
