COURSE INFORMATION
NOTE: You must wear your race number during the run portion of the race. We recommend using a race belt. Your number must be in the front when you finish. You do not need to wear it on the bike portion.
Swim Course - All athletes will start on the Pier, located at the Yacht Club and will "dive-in" to start the race. Athlete waves will be limited to 75 per wave. Athletes will complete a rectangular shaped swim course with buoys on their left. Athletes will exit at the boat ramps located at the Yacht Club.
Bike Course - Athletes can expect a rolling hills course on sparsely populated roads throughout Shawnee County. All turns and hazards will be well marked throughout the course. No Aid Stations will be present, so athletes will need to carry enough to make it through their respective courses. The Long Course and Short Course are both one-loop courses. Bike support will be provided by Capp's Bike Shop.
Run Course - Long Course athletes can expect a flat course with the occasional mild incline. The entire run course is on a closed running trail with lake views. Each turn will be well-marked and there will be two aid stations provided with an assortment of nutritional products. Short Course athletes and duathletes will be running on an out-and-back route. Athletes will run half of the 3.1 miles and then turn back around at the turnaround point, which will be clearly marked, and run the second half back to where they began.
Finish Line - Athletes will finish close to transition on the running trail. Iin true Tinman spirit, all athletes will finish on a Yellow Brick Road Finish carpet!
Transition Area (TA) - Transition will be located on the paved parking lot located at the Yacht Club.

|
PLEASE - Know the Course! It will be manned by volunteers and law enforcement, but is still your responsibility to know where you are going and to keep yourself safe. Please stay aware of traffic and obey traffic laws – you will be able to roll through intersections that are controlled by volunteers and police, but please still pay attention as we do not have control over motorists that do not listen to our directions. Do not pass the centerline of the road any time for any reason! If you have time to drive the course before Saturday morning, do so – it will make you feel more confident about knowing where to go during the bike.
ATHLETE CHECK-IN:
Make sure you drive the course. When you first arrive at the race site, drive the course to become familiar with the terrain. This will help guarantee you have a successful race day. Be sure to label your gear with your name and/or race number. Remember to put lotion on before you get bodymarked the morning of the race. Finally, after you have completed the event, please pick up your bike and gear bags. Ultramax is not responsible for gear that is not picked up. If you happen to lose any of your equipment, please check at the timing trailer near the finish line.
TIMING CHIP NOTICE
Tinman will be timed using AMB chip timing transponders, commonly called “the chip”. Please follow these simple instructions carefully. Not wearing the transponder properly may prevent you from being timed. Transponders are non-transferable! Be careful not to switch with other participants. The chip must be on ankle at all times or you will not be scored in the event. Your timing chip will be removed by volunteers once you reach the finish line.
If you find you still have timing chip after the race, please put it in a padded envelope and mail to: Ultramax Events 2902 Forum Blvd Suite 101 Columbia, MO 65203 YOU WILL BE CHARGED A $125 REPLACEMENT FEE IF YOU DO NOT RETURN YOUR TIMING TRANSPONDER Failure to return a chip will result in disqualification from all future events owned or timed by Ultramax Events!

USA Triathlon Rules
All USAT rules apply (and can be found at usatriathlon.org), but a couple of major ones to keep in mind… Helmets must be on and strapped at all times that you are on your bike at the race site (the is the course, start, transition, finish, etc)… this includes warm up, riding your bike from parking to race site, etc. You can be disqualified if your helmet is not on and strapped. There is no drafting allowed (this means you must ride at least three bike lengths behind the person in front of you, unless actively passing).
- Always ride to the right, unless actively passing (and pass only on the left). Move back to the right as soon as you have safely passed the other biker.
- When passing, yell to the biker in front of you “on your left”.
- If you must get off of your bike while on the course, pull as far right as possible, and make sure to check for other bikers before merging back onto the bike course.
- Be polite to ALL volunteers and staff. Most of the volunteers will be at the race for about 8 hour this is three-four times longer than it will take most long-course racers to complete the event. They are only out there for one reason – to make it possible for you to race. If you have a problem with a volunteer or staff member or feel their actions have harmed your race, please simply tell the Race Director or Assistant Race Director. Any mistreatment of volunteers can result in disqualification.
- Clean up your trash when you’re done racing. It will take you about 45 seconds to pick up and throw away your trash… it will take a volunteer an hour or two to clean up if everyone leaves their trash.
TEAMS
Tinman Relay Teams will transfer their timing chip inside the bike transition area. Each member of the team must return to the area to make the chip exchange. The last member of the team should wear the race number on the final run leg. The chip must be on the ankle of each team member at all times while racing.
Spectators
If your family and friends are coming to cheer for you (and we hope they are!) we encourage them to stay at the race site for the duration of the event. We understand that it’s pretty sweet to have them out on the course to cheer as you go by, but every additional vehicle that is on the course while racers are on the course just adds to any risk of injury.
