The 5 and 10 hour time penalties were implimented simply to get the placing order correct for teams that missed checkpoints. One checkpoint = 5 hours, two checkpoints = 10 hours and so forth.

8- Hour Race Note - After further review CP #18 was in fact placed the wrong location. It was very close, but still in the wrong location. We applogize for the mistake! In the end, we did have the far majority of the teams find CP #18.
